Question 1

Are there any truly indestructible toys for Staffies?

Accepted Answer

No. No dog toy is indestructible, and the better makers say so themselves. "Indestructible dog toys for Staffies" is a search term, not a product. Look for thick natural rubber in the right size.

Question 2

What size KONG does a Staffy need?

Accepted Answer

Most adult Staffies need a Large. KONG's chart lists Large for 30 to 65 lb (about 13 to 30kg) and advises sizing up if you're between sizes. Puppies usually start on a Medium KONG Puppy.

Question 3

Are nylon bones safe for Staffies?

Accepted Answer

They carry a real risk. Hard nylon doesn't dent under a fingernail, and one major maker says tooth injury is an unavoidable risk with chews that hard. Skip them for hard chewers, puppies and seniors.

Question 4

Are tennis balls safe for Staffies?

Accepted Answer

They aren't ideal. PDSA says the coating can wear tooth enamel and that damaged or slippery balls raise the choking risk. A larger rubber ball made for dogs is better.

Question 5

What toys can I leave a Staffy alone with?

Accepted Answer

As few as possible, and none that are damaged. Blue Cross advises supervising solo play wherever a dog might swallow parts of a toy. A large, undamaged rubber toy your dog has used safely many times is the lowest-risk option.

Question 6

Do chew toys clean a Staffy's teeth?

Accepted Answer

Don't rely on them. The Australian Veterinary Association says brushing is safer and more effective than chewing. My guide to Staffy health problems covers teeth.
